Temperatures are FALLING – Evening temps are near freezing
Fall weather has arrived and you’ll need to bring in your houseplants that were enjoying some extra summer sunshine the last few months. I often forget until after the first (or second) frost, dang it. Shockingly, I remembered *most* of them before the cold settled in last night; I live in town and it got down to 38*, brrrr. Be sure to check for bugs, including the underside of the leaves, before moving them indoors. If you find hitch hikers, we carry a few insecticide sprays that will kick them to the curb.
#AppleADay Campaign
For the first time, the US Apple Association has decided to compile a list of different ways people use apples and they’re looking for your help! Please visit their website and let them know a few of your favorite ways to eat apples. While you’re at it, let Bauer’s know too, send us an email or post on our Facebook and Instagram pages with the hashtag #AppleADay.
October is National Apple Month!
National Apple Month is the only national, generic apple promotion in the United States. Originally founded in 1904 as National Apple Week, it was expanded to the entire month of October, we like to think it’s because apples are so useful and tasty!
Check our currently varieties here then stop on in and sample a few to find just the perfect one for you! October is the height of apple season here in La Crescent, the Apple Capital of Minnesota, so chances are you’ll find more than one variety that you love.
It’s National Boss’ Day today!
History of Boss’ Day:: Patricia Bays Haroski registered National Boss’ Day with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois, at the time and chose October 16, which was her father’s birthday, for whom she was working for at the time. The purpose of designating a special day in the workplace is to show the appreciation for her bosses she thought they deserved. This was also a strategy to attempt to improve intra-office relationships between managers and their employees. Haroski believed that young employees sometimes did not understand the hard work and dedication that their supervisors put into their work and the challenges they faced.
Treat your Boss to a beautiful bouquet of flowers, chocolates, a houseplant for the office, baked items, or a myriad of other delicious treats available from Bauer’s Market & Garden Center. The day isn’t over yet….Bauer’s can even deliver! Check our delivery rates here; for delivery in other areas, please call during store hours (8a-7p) 507.895.4583.
