Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • about 2 apples, any variety, peeled and chopped, about 2 cups
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/8 tsp. kosher salt, sea salt, or other coarse salt
  • 1 cup walnuts chopped {optional}
  • 3 Tbsp. pure maple syrup {optional}

Instructions:

  1. In a medium-sized pot, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the apples, allspice, cloves, and nutmeg. Stir well. Let the mixture cook for 2 – 3 minutes, or until the apples start to soften.
  2. Turn the heat up to high and add 3 cups of water, oats, and salt, all while stirring. Bring the mixture to a boil then turn heat down to medium and let the oatmeal cook for 5 – 7 minutes, or until the oats have completely softened.
  3. Serve immediately topped with the walnuts and syrup, if desired, or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Warm individual portions in the microwave.
