Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup milk
  • 6 (0r 8) apples, peeled & cored
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a medium size bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Mix in the butter, then add in the milk an mix until a soft dough forms. Split the dough into 6 balls. Roll out each ball of dough and place an apple in the center of each piece of dough. Fold the dough around the apple and press it together to form a ball. Set these dumplings in a 9×13 pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, water, butter and cinnamon. Heat it just until it barely starts boiling, stirring often. Pour this mixture over the dumplings and bake them at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until the apples are soft and the dough is golden brown.

*If you’d like a thinner layer of dough around the apples, peel & core 2 more apples and make 8 dough balls instead of 6.
